In the worst weather a pair of waterproof pants is essential. But most of the time they will be in your pack "just in case". So they need to be easily packable and ideally not too expensive. The Mountain Equipment Ogre pant fits the bill perfectly. The Mountain Equipment Ogre pant has have sensible really long zips that sensibly fit over boots with ease.
We find that whilst a jacket needs to be highly breathable (using Gore-Tex or eVent) you can economise on pants by using a less breathable waterproof fabric. The Mountain Equipment Ogre pant is made from ME's own fabric which keeps the cost down.
