Vaude Power Lizard UL

We rate the Vaude Power Lizard very highly. It ticks all the right boxes for us because it sets a new standard for lightweight 2 person tents. We like it because:

• It is genuinely light, we weighed it with everything supplied at 1050 grams which is remarkably low for a tent of this size and with these features. There are lighter tents around (e.g. Terra Nova Laser Photon Elite) but they are compromise on size, comfort and stability.
• The Vaude Power Lizard is gigantic for a lighweight two person tent with excellent headroom
• It is pitched with the inner and outer together unlike for example the Big Agnes which pitches inner first and is exposed to the elements until the outer is attached.
• The tent has a substantial side entry vestibule that is more than large enough to cook in.
• The tent attaches firmly to the central hoop and has mini poles at each end. This had two advantages, stability plus usable space at the ends unlike other designs that have limited height at the ends.

The combination of these features makes the Vaude Power Lizard our 2 person tent of choice for the time being.

Taking all these characteristics into account we feel that that Vaude have done a tremendous job with the design to produce a tent that meets all of the key requirements of a backpacker looking for a seriously lightweight but highly usable tent. We concede that a serious competitor in a race might have different preferences and seek a tent that was lighter and less usable, but this type of person is in the minority and most leisure users would argue that Vaude have made just the right choices. We are impressed that Vaude have made so much progress in such a short time. Their previous designs have tended to be optimised for long life (at the cost of weight) or low weight (at the cost of room). The Power Lizard UL makes no such compromises.
